Recipes: food, family, and friends...travel and tradition

I spent the late afternoon putting some of my favorite recipes back in their box after having them accumulate, from frequent use, next to my stove. New favorites were also transcribed from their scraps of paper onto new recipe cards. I love my recipe collection. It makes me feel close to family and friends when we are so far away. New additions also remind me of where we have traveled. Hotteok and kimbap are new additions entering the box today.

호떡 Hotteok

On our way home from E-Mart we stopped and got a hot 호떡 (Hotteok) to snack on during the walk home. Hotteok is sort of like a pancake (a bit more dense and chewy) but the filling is on the inside. These ones had bean paste and chopped peanuts. They are nice and hot and warm you up quickly on a chilly evening. At 500 won (about 50 cents) a piece they are a great bargain as well!
